You don’t have to choose

I’m flying today from Chicago to Paris.

This will not be my first time flying this route. I’ve spent about half of my life in the United States, and about half of my life in Europe (including the UK). Before COVID hit, I was backing-and-forthing at least three times per year.

It took me many, many years to realize – and then to fully step into – the understanding that I do not need to choose between these two regions of the world. I do not need to root myself in one region or the other.

And: I’m here to deliver the good news to you, too. And in no uncertain terms. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to choose.

The traditional paradigm I absorbed – in my earlier years – told me that rooting in a place was the thing to do. Buy a home or a flat / apartment; perhaps buy a car. Nestle in; root into said place.

This traditional paradigm is of course a beautiful one for many. The problem with it however was that it didn’t resonate with me. I never felt called to own a home or a vehicle. And I have always suspected that the less I have by way of belongings, the happier I am.

Given all of this, at one point I understood that I needed to write a new paradigm for myself. It was still going to be one of ‘rootedness’, but my version of rootedness would see me drop my roots within my person and within the people I love – and not necessarily into a place. This is when I understood that I don’t have to choose. It was a freeing realization.

At Growmotely, we believe that the Future of Work is a place where we don’t do away with traditional paradigms of how to live, work, be, and root, but rather, it is a place where we simply cast the net wider so as to allow for a whole slew of new and different paradigms to enter into the mix – so that there are as many to choose from as possible. So that we can all – people and companies alike – find a paradigm that fits us like a glove.

We are jazzed about exploring all of these paradigms with you. Every day we show up to work, and we’re looking to allow for these new paradigms to enter into the fold, so that they can transform us, and transform you. And so we can then all evolve together.
