Creation as an antidote to destruction

  • 3Minutes

Martha Beck – in her book ‘The Way of Integrity‘ – offers us the idea that the opposite of violence and destruction is creativity and creation. She writes, “The moment you begin any creative activity, you leave the realm of violence, which knows only destruction.”

If you’ve been following our journey and our mojo here at Growmotely, you will have noticed that not only do we love to create, we love to co-create. Specifically, we love to co-create when it comes to the Future of Work. It’s not uncommon to hear our Founder and CEO Sarah Hawley remind us all – in her podcast appearances and speaking events – that everything in this world is made up, and that this is a powerful fact, because it means that we, too, can make things up. Specifically, in our case, we can ‘make up’ – and co-create – the Future of Work.

The Future of Work. We envision it – amongst other things – as:

Global.
Interconnected.
International.

There are innumerable reasons as to why this is our vision for the future, but one stands out to me today, in the wake of the violence that is hitting our brothers and sisters in the Ukraine at the moment.

For the entrepreneurs in our ecosystem, by building global, remote teams, they are – perhaps unintentionally (or not) – creating tour de force diplomatic corps. And for the remote professionals in our ecosystem who have joined global, remote teams – or who are actively seeking to become part of one – we are joining these tour de  force diplomatic corps as their foot soldiers.

If diplomacy is the art and science of maintaining peaceful relationships between nations, groups or individuals, then these personal relationships that we are forging in our teams across country – and continent – lines through work and co-creation are bonding us together in ways that act as powerful, beautiful and indeed diplomatic counterforces to destructive nationalist forces.

In the face of violence and destruction, here at Growmotely, we are choosing creation and co-creation. We are choosing to create a Future of Work that is global, interconnected and international. A Future of work where global, remote teams build invisible-to-the-naked-eye, but, as-real-as-can-be bonds and where these teams do the work of peace-builders via personal relationships with their team members.

Here at Growmotely, we are on a quest – and have a commitment – to create and co-create when we are faced with forces that aim to destruct. To quote Martha Beck one last time, “I exist in continuous creative response to whatever is present.”

If you feel called to, we would love for you to join us.
